I wrote the other day about how this little trailer !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Since I had the past two days off work, and my income tax refund came in, I went shopping for parts and spent some time with it.
The yellow markers didn’t work at all, and the passenger side taillight was out. The harness was missing the ground plug, so it had to be getting that through the trailer ball. Not ideal.
I stripped off the old deck, and tried to take off the spare tire. Apparently no-one had even looked at it after bolting it to the tongue with a U-bolt. It was flat, dry-rotted, and firmly rusted in place. I took my saws-all to the bolt and got it off. Once to that point I dragged it over to the car was and hit it with some high pressure spray to blow out the cobwebs, hornets nests, and random debris it had accumulated over two years sitting in the last owner’s back yard.
Here it is now:
Some fresh paint, a new deck, tire stands and a bolted down storage tote for the jack, etc. Now I have a good looking, useful, tire trailer.

Nice work. Looks good. Matches the Stang color, I see.

very nice. Perfect size, small enough to hide around the side of the house or hoist into the garage’s ceiling during the off season.
any chance of bigger wheel/tyre on it so you can cruise at better highway speeds for your 160mile trip?

side note: I assume you are going to replace it’s ruined spare at some point too? nothign ruins a trip like a flat on a trailer.

I would put shield on the front to protect the tires from crap getting kicked up on them.

yes, I’m looking at the larger wheels/tires as well as thinking then about ordering 3 of them and a better spare tire mount.
Since I can’t get my car into my one-car garage anyway, the trailer tucks in there nicely.

Thanks. It’s not a
perfect color
match, but close enough for jazz.

A good thought. Now to figure out how...

Completely random question, but when did you file your taxes vs when you received the refund ?
This is the only year in which when I’m receiving them actually matters and of course there’s another shutdown coming.

Fenders over the trailer wheels would probably be the easiest way. Shouldn’t be too hard to make something that goes over the wheels and then is bolted/welded down on the axle.

perhaps a small tarpoline so as to protect if it gets rainy too?

I filed on the 16th of Jan
, refund came back on the 6th of Feb
. I keep everything together and file electronically as fast as I can every year.

Aren’t those post on the sides meant to be a wheel and tire rack? Put a pipe through the Hole and the wheel hubs?
Actually that sound like PITA.

Not bad. IRS started processing returns on Jan 28th this year, so you received them a little under two weeks after they started processing. Thanks! :)
I usually get them in the second they start accepting them, but this year was a bit more annoying since it took far longer for the mortgage company to send either the 2018 totals or the tax form with those totals.

Very cool! You might also want to consider re-packing the wheel bearings at some point, especially if you don’t know when it was done last.
And I’m surprised no one has mention this yet, but I can’t help but be reminded of this video. It’s not every day you see a Mustang pulling a trailer, but it’s even the same gen and color, too :

yes, it is, for a Miata. 19" Mustang wheels won’t fit.
